The March 14 bulletin is now online.

Dear friend,

I’ve been so encouraged by the recent news about the coronavirus. The number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have all been decreasing nationwide. The vaccine developed last year is more available all the time. I hope that a large portion of the country will have the opportunity to be vaccinated by the summer. A few weeks ago, I started talking about possible changes to our scheduling of Masses with the Eventbrite. With the recent CDC news that vaccinated people can start gathering with other vaccinated people without facemasks, I think we will continue to start seeing changes to opportunities for social gatherings and hopefully our church. When changes are implemented in church, I anticipate removing the pew restrictions, placing the hymnals and missalettes back in the pews, and no longer requiring pre-Mass registration. While these changes are a bit of time away, the local bishops and legislators are thinking about lifting restrictions. As long as we are safe, I really am hopeful for normalcy in the near future.

This past week, we purchased the yellow house on the corner of Emery and Hudson. This property is adjacent to other properties owned by St. Philomena. We plan to use the property for St. Philomena School activities. We are discussing a possible community garden in the backyard, after school activities and daily activities like school band. The house gives us the opportunity to spread out some of our activities, think about new opportunities, and to own adjacent property.

This week we celebrate the feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph. Patrick, of course, brought about the conversion of the Irish people. The gift of Christianity is one that we should reflect on often. Christianity obviously spread throughout Europe before crossing the Atlantic. Patrick was instrumental in the spread of Christianity from England to Ireland. As we celebrate the gift of our Catholic Christian Faith at every Sunday Mass, the feast day of St. Patrick invites us to reflect on how the power of Christ can work through those that desire to evangelize the world. St. Joseph, as the Patron Saint of the Universal Church is our universal spiritual protector. We “go to Joseph” for so many spiritual needs. Pope Francis dedicated this the Year of Joseph. During this year, we are invited to not only trust in his prayerful guidance and protection, but also seek to grow in our imitation of his patient love for his family.  Have a great week.

God bless

Father David
