The June 20 bulletin is available online.

Dear friend,

With the increased attendance at Mass, it is time to start seeking more help in the liturgy. As it has been a year for many who served as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers or Altar Servers, I will need to do some training before fully committing to the change. As you know, I have the chalice, water, wine and Roman Missal on the Altar for the celebration of Mass. This allows me to celebrate the Mass without an Altar Server. It will be important to ensure that we have servers for the Masses prior to make the change. I anticipate have a training session for Altar Servers and EMs in the next few weeks. Please stay tuned for information.

We started a fairly substantial renewal of the school this summer. We are installing new drop ceilings in the intermediate and junior high hallways as well as the cafeteria. This will include new LED lights, fans, communication speakers and air conditioning. All of our classroom environments are air conditioned but the hallways of the school are not. This will reduce the humidity in school and spread out the air conditioning work in school. This project wouldn’t be possible without the commitment of our Finance Council to the upkeep of our school and the work of our head of maintenance, Albert Tony. Albert will install the drop ceiling grid and complete any other necessary work for the project, other than the electrical to be completed by Cover Electric and the HVAC to be installed by Diversified Mechanical (DMI). Albert has already completed new drop ceilings in the intermediate and junior high classrooms. The beauty of these renewed classrooms helped us make the decision to move forward with renewing the hallways. I am hopeful this will not only improve the overall feel and function of the building, but also make us more attractive to possible new families and students.

The Gospel passage this weekend is one of the more humorous, but also deeply spiritual, Biblical passages. Jesus falls asleep on a cushion in a boat that the Apostles perceive is in danger of sinking. As they cross the lake, the storms develop around them. The Lord Jesus, clearly at peace and at rest, sleeps while the Apostles stress about their impending doom. After waking Jesus, He rebukes the winds and then challenges their lack of faith. No matter the storm of our current life, the Lord wants us to wake Him with our prayer before we do anything else. Our relationship with Jesus gives us the perspective to think through each life situation and seek His guidance and healing. The Lord calls us to not being in terror of the storm we can’t control, but rather be at peace with His friendship to guide us through the storm. May we all lean more into prayer this week to deepen our trust in the Lord.

God bless,

Father David
