Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, O.C.I.A., (formerly called R.C.I.A.) is for non-Catholics, Catholics who are not Confirmed, and Catholics interested in learning more about the foundation of our beliefs. Classes offer the opportunity to discover or deepen your relationship with God through time in scripture, study, prayer and fellowship.

From the time of the apostles, becoming a Christian has been accomplished by a journey and initiation in several stages. This journey can be covered rapidly or slowly, but certain essential elements will always have to be present: Proclamation of the Word, acceptance of the Gospel entailing conversion, profession of faith, Baptism itself, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and admission to Eucharistic Communion. -Catechism of the Catholic Church 1229

The program begins in September, meets weekly, and culminates at the Easter Vigil Mass in the spring.  For those desire to do so, reception into the Church and of the Sacraments is done during the Easter Vigil Mass. However, there is no obligation to join the Church if you attend the classes.

Weekly classes are held on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00 p.m. However, we are not limited by this time frame. To inquire, contact the parish office at parish@stphils.com or 309-682-8642.

Our 2026-27 classes begin with a “Come and See” introductory nights on Monday, August 10 and Tuesday, September 8 both at  6:30 p.m. in the parish center banquet room. You do not have to attend both of these sessions. Class will begin officially on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. All classes are at 6:30 p.m. and last about an hour. Child care will be offered with advance notice, click here to request child care.
