Dear friend,

As we get ready for the new school year, summer projects are completed. The largest project this summer was the installation of a new drop ceiling in the cafeteria and the junior high and intermediate hallways. This was done to cover unsightly water and electrical pipes, to install new LED lighting and to air condition the hallways. While we can show you some pictures of the finished product,* it is hard to envision how good the school looks without entering. Hopefully we will be able to continue having events that bring parents and parishioners into the school building. Special thanks to Albert Tony who built the drop ceiling grid and managed the project. He attests that parishioners Tom Lucas and Greg Kolb were essential to the beauty of the finished project, and on time. Thanks for the effort by all of them this summer. As Cover Electric was installing new lights, we took advantage of the project to remove old wiring in the cafeteria and ensure our electrical is safe. The installation of the air conditioning in the hallways by DMI Mechanical transformed the feel of the building. Not only will this project be a benefit to our teachers and students daily, it helps with recruiting new students to an up-to-date school building.

If you have been on campus the last few days, you noticed work on the kids’ slide at the Rosary Walk. The winter freeze was pushing the slide upwards. Unfortunately, this would have broken the slide if not repaired. A new hole was dug into the base of the hill with new concrete poured to reinstall and level the slide. Hopefully this will keep it stable for the kids for many years to come.

The last few weeks we’ve been blessed to read the Bread of Life discourse in John chapter 6. There are so many scriptural connections involved. John Paul II wrote an Encyclical in which he said the Church has celebrated the Eucharist for 2000 years, but we’ve only “scratched the surface” in our understanding of the meaning in the Holy Eucharist, the Bread of Life. The Church clearly teaches, from these Biblical words, that the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Although the Eucharist may still look and taste like bread after the consecration. It is no longer bread and wine, it is His Body and Blood. This transubstantiation during the Mass allows the Christian to truly be in communion with Jesus. Not just spiritually, but also physically and at every level of our existence. While we can spend a lifetime discussing the Eucharist, it is essential that we all simply believe that Jesus gives his entire self in the Eucharist and we substantially receive his entire self. The more we receive Him the more we become like Him. Have a great week.

God bless,

Father David
