Seminarian Appeal

November 2025
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In February, we began celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of our diocese, with the theme, “Proclaiming Christ: Yesterday, Today, Forever.” I have spent much of this year reflecting and preaching about our providential and courageous history as it inspires how we continue our commitment to carry out the same mission in our present day. Today, however, I want to set our sights on a particular aspect of our future. After ordaining three men to the priesthood in May, and accepting seven new seminarians, we now have 20 men who are currently being formed to become future priests in our diocese!
These men generously embrace a challenging path, but it is a path filled with joy,
camaraderie, and a deep commitment to giving their lives in imitation of Jesus Christ and in service of his Church. Your prayers and financial support make this possible. The cost of forming each seminarian exceeds $60,000 annually, covering seven years (on average) of education, spiritual growth, and pastoral training. By investing in our future priests, you are ensuring they are equipped to serve the faithful of the Diocese of Peoria!
On Sunday November 30th, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, I invite you to give thanks to God for these men and continue your support by giving generously to aid in providing for their education and formation. There will be a second collection at each Mass that weekend. Please make checks payable to the Catholic Diocese of Peoria Office of Priestly Vocations.
Thank you for your prayers and generosity, and please know of my prayers for you and your families.
Peace and Prayers,
+Most Rev. Louis Tylka
Bishop of Peoria
