Peer Mentoring Peacemakers

Peacemakers is a group of students formed last fall by Sr. Jean Marie Ciuffini. Comprised of approximately 4 students from each grade level 3-8, these students are given the challenge of becoming pro-active representatives among their peers for the prevention of bullying. This program of peer intervention is effective and continues to evolve by providing students with specific training in the following:

  1. The identification of bullying – physical, verbal, on-line, etc.
  2. Strategies/procedures/processes for reporting bullying
  3. Intervention strategies/conflict resolution
  4. How to deal with both the bully and the victim
  5. Understanding and addressing the role of the bystander
  6. Mentoring new students
  7. Leadership roles/responsibilities

The school counselor collaborates with teachers to empower our students to make St. Philomena School a place of welcome, safety, and growth, and success for all who come here.
