Technology allows us to transform our learning environments and better prepare our students for global learning in this digital age. To maximize learning opportunities in all content areas at St. Philomena, we are working to embed technology throughout the curriculum. Guiding our technology curriculum design are the National Educational Technology Standards and Performance Indicators for Students developed by the International Society for Technology in Education. A primary focus of our technology education is to develop within our students an understanding of responsible digital citizenship, students who understand and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology.
To assist classroom teachers in the use of technology, St. Philomena has a technology teacher who works in classrooms with teachers to plan and design lessons. The teacher also works with students in their classrooms supporting the application of technology in their learning activities. Students in grades K-3 receive additional technology instruction through a sequence of introductory instruction during their weekly Learning Center period. For students in grades 4-8 the forced application of technology skills is built into their units of study, projects, and performances.
To insure access to technology learning opportunities, St. Philomena provides a variety of supportive hardware.
