Rosetta Stone® Classroom Version offers St. Philomena students flexibility, native language speakers, self-pacing, and 24/7 access to foreign language instruction. Students in grades 3 – 8 can choose from thirteen* different languages to study. Because we use the web-based version, students can use any computer, with a microphone connected to the Internet, to access the program any time. With this 24/7 access students can work at school or home. During the school day 4th-8th grade students may access Rosetta Stone during their free time in their classrooms or during the formal foreign language period scheduled in the Learning Center once a week. Students in grades K-3 can access the program at home with parent assistance or within the classroom with teacher assistance if time permits.
Rosetta Stone®, a leader in language-learning, is guided by the philosophy that the natural way people learn languages as children remains the most effective method. Through this technology based program, students learn their chosen language listening to native language speakers. A speech analysis tool perfects student pronunciation requiring students to closely approximate correct pronunciation before moving on. Rosetta Stone® uses rich visual imagery to help students learn and think in a new language, making direct connections between words and their meanings. Rosetta Stone® systematically builds nouns and verbs into complete sentences and dialogue. The program is intuitive, interactive, and visually engaging. Students work independently, building everyday proficiency in their basic speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing skills. The program advances students to the next level only when they achieve a defined level of proficiency.
While student progress is monitored, grades are currently not assigned in this area.
