Faith Formation
St. Philomena Church's Sunday Faith Formation classes are for children (PreK-8th grade) who attend a public or non-Catholic private school. Classes meet at school from 10:00 - 10:50 a.m. each September-May and are open to students in PreK through 8th grade. If you are new to the parish or did not attend Faith Formation at St. Philomena previously, please contact the parish office via or 309-682-8642. New families can download a registration form here. For 2017-18. the fees are $40 for the first child, $30 for each additional child in a family. If your child is in a sacramental year (2nd & 8th grades) there is also a $50 fee. If fees are a concern for your family, please contact the office at the email or phone number above.
The program intertwines daily prayer, reflection, and lessons to deepen students’ Catholic identity, plus increase their awareness of different cultures and faith. The program also includes:
  • visits to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel
  • opportunities to become altar servers (boys and girls) beginning in 5th grade. Training sessions are required. The altar server schedule is prepared by the parish office.
  • preparation for the sacraments of First Confession and First Communion in Second grade. In preparation for First Communion, students participate in a “Jesus Day” retreat held during the week prior to making the sacrament. The retreat includes a tour of the church, an opportunity to go to confession, crafts, baking bread, and a special lunch. Short services (in church) are also held prior to each sacrament for parents to increase awareness of what the students are studying and how to reinforce the concepts at home.
  • preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation in 8th grade includes a special Enrollment Mass in November and an all-day retreat held off-campus.
  • liturgical prayer services including Stations of the Cross and the Rosary.
